In the realm of struggling breath and fluid's cruel grip,
A tale unfolds of lungs that in turmoil slip.
Pulmonary edema, a foe of the chest,
Where air sacs fill with fluid, a dire test.

Two faces it wears, these burdens it brings,
Cardiogenic, the heart's weakened strings.
Pressure in vessels, a treacherous flow,
Forces fluid to invade where breath should go.

Non-cardiogenic, the other its guise,
From infections and toxins, it can arise.
Trauma's embrace, a near-drowning's kiss,
In these moments, pulmonary edema's abyss.

Symptoms are signals, the body's stark cry,
Shortness of breath as the fluid draws nigh.
Coughs with pink sputum, a frothy array,
Anxiety and wheezes, colors of dismay.

A diagnosis revealed by doctor's keen eye,
Exams and images to uncover the why.
Medications to ease, diuretics to drain,
Oxygen's breath, to lessen the pain.

In severe cases, when darkness descends,
Mechanical breath, a lifeline extends.
For pulmonary edema, a perilous foe,
Prompt care is the beacon, the path we must go.

A serious condition, it demands our heed,
In the realm of lungs, where life's breath we need.
Prognosis uncertain, outcomes in hand,
Dependent on factors, as we make our stand.
