In bones, a shadow long and dark,
Lingers where infection's spark,
Chronically it takes its toll,
Infecting deep, within the whole.

Untreated or returned anew,
Inflammatory winds they blew,
A bacterial bane, Staph aureus reigns,
Yet other culprits join the chains.

From fractures open, skin that tears,
Or surgeries' unwitting snares,
From nearby tissues, germs invade,
To bones, their pathway keenly laid.

With diabetes' grip or blood's slow course,
Immune defenses weak, a force,
That ushers in the silent blight,
Persistent in its painful bite.

Pain unyielding, chronic, deep,
Swelling red where fever creeps,
Drainage tells a tale of woe,
Pus through skin, infection's show.

Diagnose with eyes that peer inside,
Imaging where secrets hide,
X-rays, MRIs reveal,
The changes in the bone, surreal.

Lab tests seeking infection’s name,
Cultures drawn to pinpoint blame,
Bone biopsy, a crucial quest,
To find the heart of this unrest.

Treatment long, with antibiotics strong,
Intravenous first, then oral song,
Surgery to clear the dead,
Drain the abscess, halt the spread.

Hyperbaric’s healing air,
Bringing hope where tissues tear,
Managing the root beneath,
Diabetes, circulation's sheath.

Yet complications lurk and weave,
Chronic pain, a cruel reprieve,
Bone necrosis, tissue dies,
Sepsis, in the bloodstream lies.

Fractures in bones brittle, frail,
Pathological, they fail,
Prognosis hangs on many threads,
Health and care the future spreads.

With prompt and steadfast, healing hand,
Managing the condition’s strand,
Though long and arduous the fight,
Hope persists in darkest night.
