Within the cell, a battle forms,
To keep the body safe from storms,
Of foreign threats, unseen by eye,
A soldier's duty, never shy.
Phagocytes patrol the way,
Engulfing foes that come to stay.
Through phagocytosis, they stand tall,
Protecting life, they answer the call.
The pathogen, a hidden guest,
Meets phagocytes with little rest.
It’s wrapped in plasma, trapped inside,
A phagosome begins the ride.
The membrane forms, it’s sealed within,
A vesicle where fate begins.
A quiet fusion starts to loom,
The lysosome prepares its doom.
Enzymes gather, fierce and fast,
The phagosome will breathe its last.
As fusion sparks, the bond is cast,
A phagolysosome now at last.
Within this sphere, destruction reigns,
The pathogen is torn in chains.
Debris dissolves, it’s swept away,
As cells regain the light of day.
Recycled parts, the waste is gone,
The phagosome has played its song.
In defense of life, the body’s home,
A vital role, the phagosome.
