A cough that lingers, harsh and deep,
Through sleepless nights, it steals your sleep.
Eight weeks or more, it won’t let go,
A weary heart, a body slow.

Postnasal drip, the mucus flows,
Tickles the throat, the coughing grows.
Allergies and sinus’ plight,
Turn quiet days to restless nights.

Asthma, hiding in the air,
A cough that speaks of breath impaired.
No wheeze, no gasp, just coughs untold,
As lungs fight battles in the cold.

GERD may rise with acid’s burn,
Up the throat, it takes its turn.
Irritates the chest and throat,
A chronic cough is all it wrote.

Bronchitis comes, the airways tight,
Inflamed, with mucus thick and white.
COPD might be the name,
As lungs and breath play a painful game.

Infections, too, can leave a mark,
Lingering long after dark.
A cough remains when fevers go,
A constant friend through ebb and flow.

Medications, blood’s own guide,
Like ACE inhibitors, inside,
Can bring a cough that’s sharp and dry,
Without relief, it fills the sky.

And smoking, oh, it plays its part,
A cough that claws deep in the heart.
Chronic breath and lungs in strain,
A habit’s toll, a lasting pain.

So seek the cause, no time to wait,
For chronic cough can devastate.
A doctor’s care, a healing way,
Will help to keep the cough at bay.
