First, warmth grows subtly within,
and then, like flames that twist and spin,
a rise begins, slight yet clear—
above 98, the heat draws near.

Although it seems benign at first,
soon sweat gathers, a fevered thirst.
However, though we feel confined,
the body shields in ways designed.

While bacteria dare to creep,
yet the body’s heat makes them retreat.
So, meanwhile, flames will swell and churn,
for thus, the body’s heat will burn.

Next, a shiver—yet warmth abounds—
still, the coldness wraps around.
Thus, the bones feel deeply fraught,
yet onward battles, fever-wrought.

Consequently, in waves we burn,
and nonetheless in circles turn.
For aches set in, and muscles tense,
still fever’s grip remains intense.

Yet finally, it wanes and fades,
and then calmness invades.
Because the body holds its own,
though briefly fire, chilled, and shown.

Therefore, fever’s flame may be fierce,
even as the skin it sears,
and though it swells, it fights for good,
until health is understood.
