In the realm of sight, where light and shadow play,
A tale unfolds, of eyes that lose their way.
Diabetic retinopathy, a silent foe,
Creeps upon the retina with a stealthy glow.

Within the orbs where visions dance and gleam,
Diabetes weaves a complex, silent scheme.
Blood vessels suffer 'neath the sugar's might,
A dance of damage, hidden from the light.

Non-proliferative, the first act unfolds,
In whispered whispers, a story is told.
Small vessels leak, a fluid, crimson tide,
In the early stage, where shadows bide.

The retina weeps, with swelling grace,
Exudates form, like tears upon the face.
Yet vision lingers, an unbroken thread,
In the hush of NPDR, where fears are bred.

Proliferative, the drama takes its toll,
New vessels, abnormal, in darkness stroll.
Upon the retina's stage, they boldly rise,
A fragile ballet under midnight skies.

Bleeding into vitreous, the gel so pure,
A tragic waltz, a dance obscure.
Blindness beckons, a specter in the night,
As vessels rupture, shattering the light.

In the early morn of this ocular strife,
Silent symptoms weave, a hidden knife.
Blurred visions, like a foggy dream,
Floaters dance, a dark and spectral theme.

Colors fade, a palette dimmed,
Partial loss, a world now trimmed.
The eyes, once vibrant in their gaze,
Now shrouded in a blurred, bewildered daze.

Yet hope remains, a guiding star,
In the hands of healers, near and far.
Control the sugar, the blood's cruel tide,
Manage the pressure, let it not deride.

Laser beams may pierce the darkened eye,
Injections whisper healing, a lullaby.
Vitrectomy, a surgeon's careful art,
Removing blood, a mending of the heart.

Preventive measures, a vigilant song,
Regular exams where shadows throng.
Control the factors, like a caretaker's hand,
In the tapestry of health, a woven band.

Early detection, a beacon bright,
Illuminating the path through the night.
With healthcare guardians, steadfast and keen,
Vision preserved, a sight unseen.
