A rhythmic spasm, sharp and sly,
A diaphragm's leap, a vocal sigh.
The chest contracts, the sound takes flight,
A hiccup's born in day or night.

From spicy feasts or soda’s fizz,
To hurried bites—how strange it is!
A hurried meal, a heated sip,
Or icy shock can make it grip.

A nervous laugh, a sudden fright,
Excitement sparks this fleeting plight.
The vagus nerve may join the game,
Its playful twitch ignites the flame.

Short-lived dances, brief, erratic,
Yet longer bouts turn problematic.
Two days or more? It’s time to seek
What lies beneath this quirky streak.

For quick relief, a sip of cold,
A held breath can your calm unfold.
A sugared spoon, a lemon’s zest,
Might soothe the nerves and ease the chest.

Yet, should they linger, do not delay,
A doctor’s help may light the way.
GERD, medications, or nerve-strung chains,
Could all explain persistent strains.

Thus, hiccups tell a tale so small,
Of how our bodies answer the call.
A fleeting glitch, a human quirk,
Where science and wonder quietly work.
