At first, a smile—yet soon it fades,
For though I try, the face evades.
Meanwhile, voices guide my way,
Since features shift, then slip away.
Because of this, I pause and stare,
Although I know you’re standing there.
Instead of sight, I seek a clue,
Perhaps your scent, the things you do.
While others greet with joyful ease,
For me, a maze of mysteries.
In contrast, laughter fills the air,
Yet I stand lost, my eyes aware.
Thus, I listen, step in line,
Until a name aligns with time.
So, if I hesitate too long,
Know it’s not that you are gone.
Even now, the mirror lies,
For though it shows, I fail to recognize.
Furthermore, the world spins by,
One face unknown, then multiplied.
Nevertheless, I walk ahead,
Since love and warmth are felt, not read.
After all, beyond the skin,
It’s hearts I know, the souls within.
