Cochlea

May 3, 2024

In the inner ear, a spiral's grace unfurled,
The cochlea, nature's masterpiece, a world.
A fluid-filled chamber, its secrets concealed,
Where sounds are transformed, their mysteries revealed.

Sound waves in the ear canal they begin,
A journey of vibrations deep within.
The eardrum quivers to the tune of the skies,
Guiding whispers and echoes to where hearing lies.

Ossicles, three tiny bones, with skill refined,
Amplify the notes, so gentle and kind.
They pass the torch of sound to the oval's gate,
A membrane that separates, for sounds await.

Within the cochlea, a watery dance,
Fluid movements, as if in a trance.
Waves ripple like the strings of a cosmic harp,
Guiding sounds through passages, a melodic map.

Hair cells, the maestros of this auditory show,
Convert the waves to electric, to and fro.
Bending and swaying in the fluid's embrace,
They sing in silence, a hidden, wondrous place.

The auditory nerve, the bridge of connection,
Transforms these whispers into brain's reflection.
Electric signals coursing through the mind,
A symphony of thoughts, where meaning we find.

A spiral's wisdom, a tale it does weave,
For sound and hearing, it's the key to perceive.
Different frequencies, a tonal array,
High and low, in harmony they sway.

The cochlea, a marvel, in its beauty and grace,
Bringing the world's sounds to the mind's embrace.
A spiral, a chamber, where wonder is found,
In the inner ear's realm, where hearing is crowned.
